How it all started...
Kaiser’s Prairie became Trinity City in 1872. Most of the community leaders who instigated the incorporation of the City were of the Methodist Faith. They met in the Barnes Lister general store where Rev. John Woolam, a circuit riding Methodist preacher held service, once a month. In 1873 the congregation was meeting in a school house. The congregation under the jurisdiction of the Methodist Episcopal Church South was known as Trinity Mission later Trinity Circuit and by 1902 First Methodist Church. In the early 1880’s the congregation built it’s first building, a one room structure and soon outgrew it and had to build an addition in 1902 and again in 1913.
In 1926 the congregation had out grown the building once again. They began a building program and this building was completed in 1928 at the cost of $30,000.00 and early in 1929 moved into the building. Later that year the stock market crashed and the great depression began. It was a struggle but the congregation made the payments on the building and on April 11, 1943 the building was officially dedicated with the presentation of the keys to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and a note burning ceremony.
It was during this time that a committee was formed to replace the frosted glass windows in the sanctuary with stained glass. Mr. Vard Cannon was Architect and Supervisor of the project and the Texas Art Glass Company installed them. The windows were funded by donations from the membership. On November 11, 1948 a dedication service was held at the Huntsville District Conference.
In the early 1970’s a complete renovation of the sanctuary was completed. By 2000 the congregation saw a need for a new fellowship hall with offices for the Pastor and the Secretary. This building project was completed in 2001.
Now 145 years from it’s humble beginnings The First United Methodist of Trinity continues to worship and serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
